Rev. Ayo Ositelu was an astute athlete, a veteran sports journalist, a business man, an accomplished politician, a family man & an Elder in Church. At Igbobi College, he did track Field events, played table tennis, cricket & football. An all rounder in short. He represented the school in all these events. He also led the School Band. He played football more as a goal keeper. From his school days he was known as Elijah Joe. He was a distinguished sports writer & analyst who was regularly featured on TV. He was a profound member of S.W.A.N. (Sports Writers Assoc of Nigeria) & he won SWAN awards. In journalism, he started as a freelancer in The Punch before he was co-opted as a sports editor by the late Chief Olu Aboderin, publisher of The Punch. He was later promoted to be the Editor of Sunday Punch.

He left The Punch in 1987 to resuscitate his business, Dorjos Nig. Ltd, a Publishing outfit. At Dorjos Nig. Ltd, he was contributor to The Concord Press as a sportswriter using the pen name The Arena which later became his pet name. He later joined the editorial board of The Guardian Newspaper where he was until his death. He took up lawn tennis during his sojourn in America (USA). He won many laurels in Tennis & he was a member of Lagos Tennis Club & Ikeja Country Club.

As a family man, he was blessed with seven (7) children: Abisayo (F), Morayo (F), Obajimi (M), Eniola (M), Bababunmi (M), Leke (M) & Oyinkansola, (F). He was also until his death the Olori Ebi (Head of Ositelu clan) a position he assumed after the demise of his elder brother.

In Church, he was an eminent laity. He was initially ordained as a Deacon of The Church of Lord (Aladura) W/W but was later elevated to the post of Reverend. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Church. He traveled to Israel as a Reverend on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, hence the title J.P. He was into Politics right from his school days. At University of Lagos, he contested for the post of President of the Student Union. Many years later at Isolo, he contested & was later appointed as the Executive Sec. to the newly created Ejigbo L.G. Caretaker committee. He later contested for Chairman Ejigbo Local Govt & won. Thus he became the first Mayor of Ejigbo L. G.

After completing his mission on earth, he laid his sword at the feet of the Lord about 8 p.m. on 09/01/2013. May his soul rest in peace, amen.
